Hallo Gast [ Registrierung | Anmelden ]
Hello all,

After I was asked several times already by mail, and also asked by some acquaintances, here is the solution to:

Problem: BH6+7 stops during boot of CD:

Boot CD-ROM Type: CD-ROM/Non-Emulation Booting
Loading stage 1.5 .
Grub loading, please wait...
Error 21

The problem occurs with desktop PCs, but predominantly with Notebooks! (unfortunately even more so with current devices, where they arguably save on the Bios)

I know of 4 solutions so far.

>1) Change the CD boot image
>2) Install the SmartBootManager on a floppy disk and then start the CD
>3) Install the bootable CD loader on floppy and then start the CD
>4) Install the SmartBootManager from the CD and then start the CD (in case you don't have a floppy available)

Solution 1:
>- You have on old installation of Kanotix on your hard drive
>- Download the appropriate script (create new iso.bash)
>- Insert and mount the CD [mount /cdrom]
>- and start the script in a root terminal. For example [./create-new-iso.bash]
>- when that is finished, burn the new ISO image with k3b. Done.

Solution 1b:
The Script works only if one is online and that the actual boot image for the change get downloaded by wget!!! To do:
>- Those who want to manage that offline, muss pass before the appropriate boot image http://kanotix.com/files/fix/ to the drive.
>- then change script again, first comment out the line with wget with #, then in the line BOOT=... where you give the appropriate bootimage name there (for example, BOOT=/boot-bh7?.img)

Solution 2:
>- Download the SmartBootManager (SBM) http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/
>- Install according to the instructions on the floppy.
>- Put the floppy and the CD in the respective drives and boot, then select the CD in the SBM (unfortunately not every CD drive is found with the SBM)

Solution 3:
>- Download the bootable CD loader as floppy images http://bootcd.narod.ru/index_d.htm ( use a german mirror if necessary: http://www.wolfgang-brinkmann.de/bcdw/index_d.htm > 3. Program)
>- Unzip the file
>- Write the floppy image file on an empty floppy e.g. with Rawwrite which can be found here http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/rawwrite.htm
>- Put the floppy and CD in the drive and boot from the floppy, the CD will be found automaticly and booted.
(this solution has worked with all computers so far, as long as they have a floppy drive)

If somebody feels like it, they can put the above in the Wiki... which I hereby did. Thanks to kt

RoEn?

I (kt) have still another thing to add about the above solutions, make sure the added booting problem does not happen because the floppy is not inserted in the drive!

Solution 4: (When the computer doesn't have a floppy drive!)

>- Burn the file image on a CD.
>- Boot with this CD.
>- in the SmartBootManager, select the entry CD.
>- Eject the CD and insert the Kanotix BH-6, BH-7, BH-8, ... CD.
>- with [RETURN] boot from CD in non-emulation mode.

the link to download the zipped ISO image:
see under ... Smart_Boot_Manager_36.zip

Thanks to kt (taken from his thread at: http://kanotix.mipooh.net/viewtopic.php?t=2128 )
